From one day to the next, reels get 200 views instead of 20,000, and nobody tells you why. That is a shadowban. It is rarely permanent, but it does not go away on its own if you carry on as before.
How you recognise it
- Reels suddenly sit at a fraction of the usual views, over several days.
- Your account no longer shows up for non-followers in search and under hashtags.
- Under settings, account status, Instagram sometimes shows itself that content is "recommended less".
A single bad reel is not a shadowban. Three days in a row are.
What triggers it
Mostly content that Instagram classifies as sexual or "borderline", even if it is within the rules. Also: too many follows or likes in a short time, content deleted after reports, links to sites Instagram does not like, and identical content on many accounts at the same time.
The order that works
- Check account status. If Instagram shows a restriction there, acknowledge the notice and appeal if offered.
- Archive the last two days. Not delete, archive. That removes the triggers from the feed.
- Post nothing for six to 24 hours.
- One or two safe reels a day, for three days. Safe means: nothing an algorithm could rate as sexual.
- When reach comes back, slowly return to the normal frequency. If not: change name, bio, profile picture and link and switch the link domain. After that the account practically starts fresh for Instagram.
What does not help
Deactivating the account for a few hours, deleting hashtags, "repost" apps, or any services promising to lift the ban. None of that has ever had a measurable effect with us.
Preventing it
The best protection is not betting everything on one account. Our creators run across several accounts, on separate devices, with own IPs. If one drops out, the others keep posting. And the content is slightly changed per account, so Instagram does not recognise it as copies.
If your account is affected right now: you can do steps 1 to 4 yourself today. If you do not want to do that yourself every time, we take over monitoring and the response.
